Kampanj för giftfria leksaker

Many toys contain synthetic chemicals which can have negative effects on children's health. Carcinogenic formaldehyde is often found in glued wood puzzles, highly toxic flame retardants are found in cuddly toys. Even toys as innocent looking as bathing ducks may contain chemicals like PVC and hazardous substances such as phthalates.

To raise awareness on this issue WECF- Women in Europe for a Common Future, a network of a hundred women's and environmental organisations – handed out toxic free toys to young parents in Utrecht during Sustainability Day.

I believe we should have the opportunity to make informed choices when buying, particularly when it is for children. Buying less is good but buying ethically, since we cannot avoid shopping, is even better. Buying ethically simply means making socially aware choices and purchasing goods that are kind to the environment and mankind.

This is why I believe that “green toys”, produced in harmony with humans and nature, are an ethical and social choice for a better and more sustainable future for our children and our Planet. With green toys children can have fun playing, learning and growing up taking care of our mother Earth.
